Jeremy Clarkson once branded this classic Alfa Romeo as the one model he "regretted" selling. The Alfa Romeo GTV6 was a V6-powered version of the Alfetta coupé and sold between 1981 and 1986.

The car was fitted with an iconic 2.5-litre V6 engine with a top speed of up to 128mph from its 154bhp. The car certainly packed a punch and could reach 0-60mph in just eight seconds from a standstill. The TV star made the admission during a Q&A session hosted for Top Gear fans back in 2015. The event, dubbed 'An Evening with Top Gear' saw him joined alongside fellow co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond in front of a live audience.

Jeremy made the admission after an audience member asked which car he most "regretted" selling.

The former top Gear host quickly replied: “The car I most regret selling would be my Alfa GTV6 I think because that was a cracking car.

"It didn't work ever, it’s much like the Ford GT, every car I ever buy doesn't work. My Range Rover is now running on seven cylinders which is odd.

"But the GTV6 is the car that still makes the nicest noise of any car I have ever driven."

Classic car experts at Hagerty have said prices for the Alfa Romeo GTV6 had been "slowly moving up".

However, they stressed costs had not increased in the same way as for other iconic models such as the Ford Capri and Audi Quattro.

The experts stressed it was more than possible to secure a "looked after GTV6" between £10,000 to £12,000.

However, prices will vary based on the condition of the model with some examples in excellent shape likely to sell for around £24,000.

Hagerty said the GTV6’s at the top end of the market is likely to set road users back around £36,000.

Seconds later, James May added that he also wished he hadn't parted ways with one particular Alfa Romeo model.

James added: “Well actually mines an Alfa which is that 164 I had which had essentially the same engine, slightly bigger but made the same nice noise.

“I really loved that car in an inexplicable carnal way.”
