Billionaire asks ‘why does this keep happening’ as £850k Lamborghini goes up in flames

An Indian billionaire has called out Lamborghini after a social media clip showed the flames pouring out of the supercar. Social media clips showed a luxury Lamborghini Aventador on flames in a packed street in Bengaluru in Southern India, sparking fury from billionaire Gautam Singhania.
Mr Singhania, MD of the fabric producer Raymond Group, called on Lamborghini to address the issue as he raised serious safety concerns. The 20-second video was posted on social media by influencer Sanjeev, who is known for showcasing a collection of high-end luxury cars on his accounts. Flames can be seen pouring out of the rear end of the Aventador close to its mid-mounted V12 engine.
Smoke and ash litter the bodywork while a small puddle of fire extinguisher can also be seen sprayed over the rear. Fortunately, it is believed that there were no injuries reported in the incident.
Posting on X, Mr Singhania said: “Another day, another Lamborghini in flames. This time in Bengaluru, as per report from NDTV. This isn’t a “rare incident” anymore. It’s a pattern. Why is Lamborghini silent??? Why are their cars catching fire??? Are their cars safe??? Should they be allowed in India???”
The Aventador is believed to cost around 10,000,000 Indian rupees, the equivalent of £858,000.
It’s not the first time Lamborghini has had to deal with the fallout of a fire affecting one of their cars in India. It could be the second incident in the past seven months with a Lamborghini Revuelto understood to have caught fire on Mumbai's Coastal Road in December last year.
Social media users on Instagram were quick to speculate what could have caused the fire with “hot weather”, an “over healing engine” and “modifications” all blamed as a possible cause. Others suggested the high traffic levels seen in India could be another reason behind the problems.
One user, @divyan_1908 posted: “I think that Lamborghini must take some action about this… Lamborghini isn’t just a car, it’s is a dream for me.”
Another added: “If company is launching in India, company has to test drive in India.”
Instagram user @ullas_raghavendra appeared to come to Lamborghini’s defence, stressing that others were equally to blame. They posted: "Lamborghini isn’t silent, it’s the insurance and what is covered in it. You guys even aware how heavily it is modified?”
The Express has contacted Lamborghini for comment.
