A money saving expert has revealed the one popular supermarket where drivers can secure the cheapest petrol and diesel fuel. Mat, a leading expert at ‘thequidsquid’ TikTok channel, suggested filling up at supermarket forecourts was likely to pay off with stores offering cheaper fuel than their rivals.

Meanwhile, Mat stressed that one particular brand stands out for offering the best rates, with Asda found to be the cheapest across the board. According to experts, customers at the popular store can enjoy the best rates on petrol and diesel fuel in a major win. Mat made the claim on a social media clip uploaded to TikTok, explaining the best places for road users to top up their vehicles.

Mat said: “Where is the best place to fill up your car with petrol?... A way you can save a ton of money on your petrol costs is picking the right pumps. So where is the cheapest place in the UK to fill up your car? The short answer is supermarkets. They consistently beat other normal forecourts. In fact, Asda has been found to be the cheapest supermarket for both petrol and diesel.

“As motorway prices can swing by 34p per litre, that is an £18 difference per tank… So save some cash on your petrol by using supermarket forecourts."

According to data from RAC Fuel Watch, Asda is still the most affordable supermarket forecourt for petrol and diesel owners.

Statistics show petrol averages sit at around 130.8p per litre at Asda, less than rivals such as Morrisons (131p), Tesco (131.4p) and Sainsbury’s (131.6p).

Diesel costs at Asda are also lower than those of their competitors, with average costs sitting at 138.5p per litre. Data shows these diesel rates are lower than Morrisons (138.9p), Tesco (138.9p) and Sainsbury’s (139.1p).]

Despite the opportunity to make major savings at certain stores, experts have warned road users should not get carried away and chase cheaper costs.

Mat added: “Don’t go driving too much out of your way to go to it because you will be using petrol to get to the place, which in essence will then end up costing you more money.”
