‘I’m a car expert - these Mazda, VW and Audi models are top 3 modern classics’

Vehicles manufactured by Mazda, Volkswagen and Audi are among some of the top tips for the best modern classic cars on the road today. The Mazda MX-5 sportscar, VW Golf and Audi TT Mk1 are my three top tips with the models likely to be remembered long into the future.
All three of the models can be picked up for less than £10,000 today but have the potential to rise in the coming years. The models are among the most iconic vehicles produced in their eras, with the cars still well-sought after by collectors today. The Daily Express looks at the top three modern classics on the road, with the Mazda MX-5 topping the list.
The Mazda MX-5 is recognised by many as the best selling two-seater sports car ever made, and it’s clear to see why. The Japanese convertible has the perfect blend of elegance and style with the convenience of modern reliability and performance.
Values are beginning to rise with some Mazda MX-5 models now selling for above £5,000, up from just £1,500 to £2,000 less than half a decade ago.
The Golf GTi is widely considered to be one of the most important modern classics on the road, with the model being transformative for the hot hatch market.
Prices are up on the values of earlier GTi machines such as the Mk1 and Mk2 in recent years, which is a clear indication the model is sought after by collectors.
The model has a reputation for having generally good reliability, making it a no-brainer to those on the lookout for models set to stand the test of time.
The Mk1 Audi TT was one of the last great cars of the late 1990s and is now considered a genuine modern classic of the future. The vehicle is considered to be a genuine collector's item, with low-mileage and limited-edition models rare finds.
Mike Brewer, host of the hit TV show Wheeler Dealers, stressed the model could be worth as much as £1,500 to £2,500 today.
However, keeping hold of the keys could pay off, with Mike suggesting the Mk1 model could be worth up to £10,000 in the near future.
He said: "Definitely a modern classic is a Mk1 Audi TT. The 225bhp model, that’s a really good car – a very good modern classic."
