The sad picture of car prices: Türkiye overtakes Europe

According to data published by the EU statistics office, Eurostat, Turkey has become the country with the most expensive cars and personal transportation vehicles among 36 European countries. With the EU average at 100 euros, the same car in Türkiye costs 136.40 euros. This puts prices 36.4 percent higher than the EU average.
OTHER EXPENSIVE COUNTRIES IN EUROPETürkiye is followed by Denmark, which ranks 19.1 percent above the EU average. Experts believe this difference is primarily due to the country's high tax rates. Following Denmark are Iceland (18.1 percent), the Netherlands (14.3 percent), Ireland (10.3 percent), and Switzerland (10.2 percent).
THE CHEAPEST COUNTRIES ARE NORTH MACEDONIA AND SLOVAKIAAccording to the price index, the countries with the most affordable personal transport are North Macedonia and Slovakia. A vehicle that costs €100 in the EU sells for €87.70 in North Macedonia and €88.60 in Slovakia.
The situation in the major economies of the EUAmong the EU's four largest economies, Spain is the cheapest. Prices in Spain are 3.8 percent below the EU average, while Germany is 0.4 percent above average. In France and Italy, the price difference is quite small, at 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent below average, respectively.
Experts say Türkiye's top spot is primarily due to high taxes, exchange rate fluctuations, and vehicle import costs. This figure further demonstrates that Turkey is the most difficult country in Europe to own a car.
