Official: Colton Herta will race with Hitech in F2 in 2026

Having paused his IndyCar career and focused on European racing, the 25-year-old Herta has decided to compete in F2 for a full season to earn the FIA Super Licence points necessary for his move to F1. This move will allow him to familiarize himself with European racing conditions and gain closer exposure to the many F1 tracks and weekend structures. Cadillac announced in an official statement that Herta will race with Hitech during his F2 journey. During this season, in addition to his F2 racing, Herta will also continue his testing, simulator, and engineering duties for Cadillac’s F1 team, which will enter the race in 2026. Colton Herta said in a statement: “I’m very excited to officially join F2 for the 2026 season. This is a great opportunity to develop myself in European racing conditions and compete with the best young drivers in the world.” “Racing on the same weekends as Formula 1 will allow me to acclimate to this environment and better position myself within the Cadillac F1 family. I’m grateful to Cadillac and Hitech for their confidence in me, and I can’t wait to get started.”
While Cadillac will be the 11th team to enter Formula 1 in 2026, Herta is expected to get one step closer to an F1 seat with the experience he will gain in F2 during this transition period.
