Nissan is closing its factory

Nissan Motor said it will end production at its Oppama plant south of Tokyo and transfer assembly of vehicles to a factory in Kyushu.
The company said in a statement that the Oppama plant, one of the oldest facilities operated by the Japanese automaker , will cease production at the end of fiscal 2027. People familiar with the matter said the plant was on a potential closure list as part of a restructuring and cost-cutting process. Nissan is seeking to raise funds and reduce costs amid a rapidly deteriorating financial and operational situation as Chief Executive Ivan Espinosa attempts to turn the company around. "Today, Nissan made a difficult but necessary decision," Espinosa said in a statement. "It wasn't easy for me or the company, but I believe this is a vital step toward overcoming our current challenges and building a sustainable future."
