BYD gave up on building a factory

China's largest electric vehicle maker BYD has shelved plans to build a large factory in Mexico amid geopolitical tensions and uncertainties stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump's trade policies.

The company has expressed interest in growing in the Americas, but has said it does not yet have a timeline for a new investment.

"Geopolitical issues have a big impact on the automotive industry. Everyone is currently reassessing their strategies in other countries. We want to wait for more clarity before making our decision," said Stella Li, BYD's Executive Vice President.
