In April 2021, 195 new electric cars were sold in Russia, eight times more than in April last year (24 units). In total, 502 new electric cars were sold on the Russian market in January-April of this year, 6.5 times more than a year earlier (77 units). This was reported by the Avtostat agency.
The report notes that 80% of new electric vehicle sales in April were three models: Porsche Taycan (85 units), Audi e-tron (39 units) and Tesla Model 3 (32 units). Also in April, 13 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles, 10 JAC iEV7S electric cars, 6 Tesla Model X electric vehicles, 5 Jaguar I-Pace cars, 2 Tesla Model Y electric cars and one each of Chevrolet Bolt, KIA Niro and Tesla Model S were sold in Russia.
Experts attribute the growth in electric vehicle sales in April to a low base - a year ago, sales of cars in general and electric vehicles in particular collapsed due to the quarantine imposed by the authorities.
Over 40% of new electric car sales in April were in Moscow (80 units), about 11% in St. Petersburg (21 units). Next come the Sverdlovsk Region (13 units), the Moscow Region (11 units) and the Krasnodar Region (9 units). From 1 to 5 new electric cars were purchased in 37 regions.
Let us recall that recently it became known that a working group under the Ministry of Economy prepared a draft program "Highly automated electric transport in cities", which provides that 418 billion rubles will be spent on the development of electric transport by 2030, including 153.5 billion rubles from the budget and extra-budgetary funds. The plan provides that in 2022 the share of electric vehicles in the Russian car market should be 1.7% with total car sales of 1.8 million units, and by 2030 - 15% (with a car market volume of 2.5 million units). The total fleet of electric vehicles by 2030 should be 1.5 million units.
In 2020, a total of 687 new electric vehicles were sold in Russia, 95% more than the year before. Despite the almost twofold increase in sales, electric vehicles accounted for approximately 0.04% of the Russian new car market.
