In the fifth round, Ivan Domingues ' best qualifying so far in his debut season in Formula 3 – and in the round closest to home, in Barcelona.
This Friday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the young driver from Leiria clocked a time of 1m29.275s in qualifying, which gave him seventh place at the start of Sunday's main race.
Better still, in tomorrow's Sprint race Domingues (Van Amersfoort Racing) will start from sixth position , thanks to the partial inversion of the starting grid for that race.
Pole position was just half a second away, achieved by Brazilian Rafael Câmara (Trident).
In a statement sent to the newsrooms, Ivan Domingues reacted to this result: “This qualification is proof that we are growing. “In Monaco we already felt that we were very fast and now, in Barcelona, I felt very good once again. In the races in Europe, especially on the circuits where I competed previously, I believe I can overcome the fact that I have much fewer Formula 3 kilometers than most drivers. We don’t want to stop here , we will continue working to improve, trying to make the most of every second on the track. Formula 3 is very competitive and I am always focused on giving everything; work and resilience are the solution.”
