Toyota anticipates acceleration in its sales, and is achieving it.
León, Guanajuato.- Toyota is clear that the national new car sales market isn't necessarily going through a slowdown.
For this year, it plans to accelerate its sales beyond the 121,968 units it sold in 2024, and at least so far, it is achieving this.
Between January and June of this year, it sold 60,260 units in Mexico, representing a 3.75% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when it sold 58,081 units.
Although 709,341 light vehicles were sold in the country between January and June 2025, a figure 0.2% lower than the same period in 2024, according to figures from Inegi, Gerardo Romero, Toyota's vice president of operations, believes the market pace is different.
I don't see any major growth overall; rather, I see a stable market; I mean, I don't see a decline either. I don't see a slowdown, really. And I think it's precisely because there are a significant number of brands that don't report their sales. There are around 30 Chinese brands that don't report.
He noted that Chinese automakers are the fastest gainers in market share, so the increased growth in new car sales would be reflected in their figures, which have yet to be shared.
Romero emphasized that Toyota is seeing positive sales results throughout Mexico, with the exception of the state of Sinaloa, very similar to what they achieved in 2024.
The only region I think is also having a significant impact and needs to be clearly identified is Culiacán. The entire state of Sinaloa, that is, Mazatlán and Los Mochis.
"Insecurity has caused car and pickup truck sales to decline significantly in that area," he admitted.
He considered that the brand continues to take advantage of the stability of the Mexican market and its main focus is on selling hybrid vehicles.
