Ferrari once again looks to the past to inspire the future. Its latest bespoke project, the SC40, recaptures the spirit of the legendary F40 and brings it into the hybrid era with a unique, custom-made piece. It's an exercise in design and technology that proves that driving excitement can also be sustainable.
The Maranello-based firm has unveiled the SC40, a unique model conceived through its Special Projects program, where each car is tailor-made to the wishes of a single client. On this occasion, the commission was intended to pay homage to the legendary 1987 Ferrari F40, one of the most iconic supercars of the 20th century.

The result is a car that combines the classic spirit of the F40 with the Italian manufacturer's most advanced hybrid technology. It's a modern reinterpretation that, without sacrificing the brand's DNA, reflects Ferrari's understanding of the evolution of driving excitement in the era of electromobility.
The project, directed by Flavio Manzoni from the Ferrari Design Center, is based on the architecture of the 296 GTB, with its chassis, mid-rear engine, and hybrid powertrain. But beyond the technical foundation, the SC40 boasts a completely new design, with angular, aggressive, retro-inspired lines that blend with softer surfaces to give it a contemporary, fluid, 21st-century feel.
The chosen color, an exclusive white called SC40 White, contrasts with various black details that reinforce its sporty character. The interior features lightweight, racing-grade materials such as carbon-kevlar, charcoal-colored Alcantara, and a crimson red jacquard technical fabric. The Prancing Horse on the headrests is a reminder of the designer of this unique piece.

Beneath that bespoke bodywork lies the same plug-in hybrid system as the 296 GTB: a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 combined with an electric motor located between the engine block and the transmission. Together, the car develops 819 hp, propelling it from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 330 km/h.
Although the iconic F40 featured a V8, Ferrari has opted to keep the hybrid technology of its current sedan intact to underline its commitment to a future where power and efficiency coexist without sacrificing driving pleasure.

The SC40 is a car that looks to the future without forgetting where it comes from. Inspired by one of history's most iconic supercars, the roar of the F40's engine is reinterpreted in a hybrid version, with the elegance and attention to detail that only Maranello can bring to each of its creations.
