Thierry Koskas, CEO of Citroën: “Buying an electric car is an investment in the future that pays for itself over time, even without incentives.”

We find ourselves in a time of great change in the automotive industry : the ecological transition, the gradual abandonment of gasoline, startups, China , and the new technologies that are already here. And among them all, one seems to have emerged as the winner: electric cars . But still, doubts persist . Therefore, it's appreciated that in these uncertain times there are people who are clear on the matter. The latest to highlight the benefits of electricity applied to the automotive industry has been Citroën CEO Thierry Koskas , who highlights the virtues of this technology.

In an interview with German outlet Die Welt , Koskas asserts that buying an electric car is the best long-term investment anyone can make: “The first thing customers see is the higher price of electric cars. So it's our duty to better communicate the advantages of electromobility . Salespeople must explain to customers that they'll save money by buying an electric car: with an electric car, you save 700 euros a year. Buying an electric car is an investment in the future that pays for itself over time, even without incentives,” stressed the CEO of Citroën, part of the Stellantis group .

Of course, these incentives never hurt . But for Koskas, it's not something that can be sustained over time: "Of course, aid is good . But no country can afford these subsidies in the long term," concludes the Citroën boss.

Of course, the most burning question about the future of the automotive industry couldn't be left out: the CO2 restrictions that are already here and are forcing manufacturers to invest in cleaner technologies. Koskas doesn't shy away from the question and assures that Citroën will comply with the EU mandate: "It's true that the CO2 limits imposed by the EU are very ambitious. In any case, Citroën plans to meet its share of the quota. And we want to achieve this without slowing down sales of conventional engines," Koskas asserted.

And that future also includes a new, more economical electric car model , designed for big cities and short trips: "In mid-2025, we will also offer the Citroën e-C3 200, a variant with a slightly smaller battery for less than 20,000 euros," Koskas emphasized. That "200," as you may have guessed, refers to the kilometers of range. There will also be a commercial version for fleets. And not only that, there will also be other "200" versions of the rest of the series: "We will continue with this strategy in other models . Customers will be able to choose between a longer range or a more economical version with a smaller battery," concluded the Citroën CEO.
