The Civil Guard's warning: it will begin issuing fines of up to 500 euros to car passengers if they break these rules.

Typically, drivers are the ones who have to be most vigilant about breaking the rules to avoid being fined, but non-driving passengers are not exempt.

The Civil Guard has issued a warning warning of certain violations that are the responsibility of passengers and can result in fines of up to 500 euros.

One of the most common violations is not wearing a seat belt. The regulations specify that "all vehicle occupants, without exception, must wear their seat belts."

The fine for not wearing a seatbelt is 200 euros, and although it doesn't result in the loss of points for the passenger, it can have serious consequences in the event of an accident. Law enforcement officers can directly fine the person not wearing a seatbelt, without fining the driver.

Another common violation is engaging in dangerous behavior, such as sticking your hand, arm, or even your head out the window. This is considered a distraction, and in the event of a collision or hitting an obstacle, the risk of injury increases. The fine can be up to 100 euros.

Fines for distracting the driver with behavior such as shouting, using loud devices, moving objects into the front seat, or even tampering with the steering wheel or gear shift can be higher, up to 500 euros .

These actions may be construed as negligent by law enforcement officers if they contribute to an accident or dangerous maneuver by the driver of the vehicle.
