The 10 cheapest cars of May: with increases of up to 3%, only one remains below $20 million.

Following the excitement generated by the lifting of the dollar restriction, automakers published their May price lists. Ford and Nissan, for example, had no changes compared to April, while the rest of the general manufacturers adjusted between 1% and 2%.
In some specific cases, such as those of the cheapest cars, these increases reached peaks of up to 3% , as was the case with the Fiat Mobi , which has already surpassed the $20 million mark. Only the Renault Kwid , which holds the title of being the most affordable car in Argentina, remains below that figure.
The fact that the increases are below the latest inflation rate (3.7%) will likely help maintain the sector's strong sales pace.
In April, the 54,001 patented units represented a year-over-year increase of 63.9% and an 11.6% increase compared to March. Meanwhile, in the first four months of the year, 216,458 units were patented, representing an 83.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Fiat is the brand with the most models in the top 3: Mobi, Fiorino, Cronos and Argo.
The cumulative numbers for the first four months confirm the strong start to the year, which is encouraging for a sector that welcomed the tax announcements and is on track to surpass initial forecasts. Several sources are already suggesting that sales could exceed 600,000 vehicles by 2025.
The most affordable cars are found in the city and compact segment, which also represent the largest vehicle fleet.
In recent months, the range has expanded with the arrival of several new models: the Hyundai HB20 Sedan , the Kia K3 , which also offers 4 and 5-door body styles but just misses the top 10, and the Fiat Argo , relaunched at the beginning of May.
Renault Kwid
The cheapest model on the market recently added the Outsider version, which features details that give it a more adventurous look. The price is the same as the Iconic variant, which received a 2% price adjustment compared to April.
The return of the diamond-shaped brand's small car (which had been offered from 2017 to 2021) included equipment improvements, such as the inclusion of stability control (ESP) and improved connectivity.
Fiat Mobi Trekking
It's the model that grew the most on this list: 3% . And for the first time since it returned to our market, it's above $20 million.
The Mobi features the familiar 70-hp naturally aspirated 1.0-liter engine and a fifth-speed manual transmission. Its range includes a single, new version (Trekking), which stands out from its predecessors with a more adventurous look.
JAC S2
JAC is one of the Chinese brands imported by Chery-Socma, with the S2 being its most affordable model. This compact crossover comes in a single version with a 105-hp 1.5-liter engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
Its official price is expressed in dollars (US$19,990), and has remained the same since February. The official dollar exchange rate at the time of writing was $1,130.
Its standard equipment includes only two front airbags, hill start assist, cruise control, automatic door locking, rear sensors and a reversing camera, a 9" touchscreen multimedia display compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and air conditioning, among other features.
Hyundai HB20

Mechanically, it has a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 123 horsepower, which can be associated with a manual or automatic transmission, both with 6 speeds.
The mid-range hatchback is automatic and costs $26,364,000, while the top-of-the-range version adds driver assistance systems and is priced at $29,913,000.
In turn, the base sedan (Comfort Plus manual) costs $23,727,600 and the full (Platinum Safety automatic), $30,014,400.
Fiat Cronos
Argentina's best-selling sedan has just been updated and is the most affordable domestically produced model on the market. However, the 2.5% price adjustment caused it to drop one spot compared to April.
This compact car is powered by a 1.3-liter, 99-horsepower gasoline engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The range consists of four versions and includes variants with a CVT automatic transmission. Prices range from $23,641,000 to $29,467,000.
Citroën C3
The French brand's most affordable model increased by 1.5% compared to April.
Mechanically, it is powered by the well-known 115 hp 1.6-liter gasoline engine, which can be combined with a 5-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission.
This year, the range added a version equipped with the mechanical set consisting of the 120 hp 1.0 turbo engine and the CVT automatic transmission, present in other Stellantis Group models, which costs $25,890,000.
Fiat Argo
The model was relaunched last week after being discontinued in 2021 due to severe import restrictions.
The revamped Argo is Fiat's second-cheapest car and is sold in a single version with the well-known 99-hp 1.3 Firefly engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
In terms of equipment, it offers two front airbags, a 7" touchscreen multimedia display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity, manual climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera, among other features.
Peugeot 208 Active
The country's best-selling car is domestically produced and manufactured in El Palomar. It was modernized last year and now has the aesthetics of the current European 208.
In May, the most economical version (Active) increased by 1% compared to April.
Mechanically, it is powered by a 115 hp 1.6-liter engine, combined with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The range also includes more equipped and powerful versions that feature the new 120 hp 1.0-liter turbo engine, mated to a CVT automatic transmission.
Citroën Basalt
This crossover, launched in early 2025, is another that saw a 2.5% increase in price in May. Its silhouette blends the shape of an SUV with that of a coupe, and it also boasts a large interior space and trunk capacity (490 liters).
The most affordable versions (Live and Feel) are equipped with a 115-horsepower 1.6-liter engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. Another more powerful version (Shine) is equipped with a 120-hp T200 turbo engine and a CVT automatic transmission.
Toyota Yaris
It remains the best-selling imported model (sourced from Brazil). At the end of 2024, the Japanese brand announced the reconfiguration of its range, eliminating the sedan and hatchback variants with manual transmission.
This month, the compact saw a 1.1% increase in its base version (XS CVT). The Yaris is powered by a 1.5-liter, 105-horsepower gasoline engine paired with a CVT automatic transmission.
The range has two other versions (XLS+ and S), which cost $27,574.00 and $29,741,000 respectively.
Considering that the Toyota Yaris closes the ranking of the 10 cheapest cars and its price is $ 24,822,000, there are four utility vehicles that are below that figure:
DFSK C31
The utility vehicle brand imported by the Chery-Socma group offers two models that rank third and fourth among the cheapest.
The most economical is the C31 minitruck (single cab), which has a cargo capacity of 1,115 kilos. Next comes the C32 (double cab), which can carry up to five passengers and 860 kilos in the cargo bed.
Both are equipped with a 101-hp 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The C32 costs US$19,500 ($22,035,000 at the official exchange rate of $1,130).
Fiat Fiorino
The Brazilian-made small van is the cheapest utility vehicle on the market and ranks fifth on the aforementioned list, despite having registered a 1% increase in price in May.
The range consists of a single version (Endurance), which features the classic mechanical set-up consisting of a 1.4-liter, 8-valve engine with 85 horsepower and a five-speed manual transmission.
DFSK C35

It has the same mechanical assembly as the C31 and C32 and has a load capacity of 575 kilos.
