RA272, Honda's legacy in Formula 1

RA272, Honda's legacy in Formula 1

It has a length of 3.9 meters and a wheelbase of 2,300 millimeters.

The Hermanos Rodríguez Racetrack hosted this historic event, with American Richie Ginther winning the race, accelerating to the finish line in the Honda RA272. This car also led all 65 laps of the Mexican Grand Prix.

Honda RA272 was the successor to the RA271 model, and in the Japanese company's second season in the big circus, this car became the first Japanese car to win a race in F1.

Honda as a manufacturer has three wins, two pole positions, two fastest laps and nine podiums.

Honda subsequently continued to refine its engine engineering, achieving over 100 victories to date with teams such as McLaren, Williams, Lotus, Alpha Tauri, and Red Bull.

On the technical side, the iconic RA272 is a single-seater composed of an aluminum monocoque, which together with other components weighs 498 kilograms. The fuel tank has a capacity of 180 liters, and the car was driven by Goodyear tires.

The RA272's design is reminiscent of the Japanese national flag.

At the rear is a 1.5-liter engine capable of reaching 12,000 rpm. It also delivers up to 230 horsepower and a top speed of approximately 240 kilometers per hour. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

To mark the 60th anniversary of Honda's first Formula 1 victory, Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda drove the RA272 model yesterday at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the site where the Japanese automaker's legacy began.

The Honda RA272 uses a 1.5-liter V12 engine.
