Nissan strengthens its commitment to carsharing with MEC after seven years and more than 500,000 kilometers traveled in Barcelona.

Nissan continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable mobility in Barcelona through its 100% electric carsharing service, developed in collaboration with MEC. Since its launch seven years ago, this pioneering service in Spain for private and professional users has attracted more than 6,500 users who have traveled more than 500,000 kilometers annually, helping to prevent the emission of more than 70 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere.

This car-sharing model, promoted by Nissan, offers a practical, sustainable, and complementary alternative to public transportation, expanding travel options in the city. The system combines the convenience of occasional vehicle use with the environmental benefits of an electric car. The service costs range from €8 per hour to €56 for a full day, representing a savings compared to the cost of maintaining a private vehicle.

Currently, the Nissan and MEC carsharing network in Barcelona has 15 parking lots distributed throughout the city. Some of them are located in key areas such as Plaça Urquinaona, Passeig de Gràcia, Arc de Triomf, Sagrada Família, and Sarrià. The service also extends to outlying areas, such as Vilafranca del Penedès, covering more than 100 square kilometers of the metropolitan area.

One of the system's unique features is its hybrid approach, designed for both private and professional customers. MEC and Nissan have even incorporated electric vans into their fleets to meet the needs of light commercial transport, reinforcing its functional nature and adaptability to different types of users.

Since its inception, the regular use of the service by public administrations demonstrates its consolidation as a reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation solution. Each kilometer traveled is equivalent to a saving of more than 100 grams of CO₂, which translates into direct benefits for the city's air quality and public health.
