When Ford Wanted to Buy Ferrari. The True Story That Would Change the Automotive World in a Book

It is entitled «La trattativa» and is the latest book by Luca Dal Monte that tells a little-known and not fully explored but crucial chapter in Ferrari's history: the acquisition attempts by Ford, Alfa Romeo and Fiat in the 1960s.
With historical rigor and narrative rhythm, Dal Monte reveals unpublished documents, behind-the-scenes stories and secret correspondence. It all begins in 1963, when Ford attempts to buy Ferrari to strengthen its sporting image. The American dream, however, clashes with a condition set by Enzo Ferrari: the absolute autonomy of the sporting activity. Faced with refusal, the negotiation fails, giving rise to the legendary rivalry between Ford and Ferrari at Le Mans.
A brief dialogue with Alfa Romeo follows, which however does not take off also due to the hesitations of the lawyer Agnelli. Only in 1969 with the entry of Fiat is the balance found: investments yes, but without giving up the sporting soul.
The book, published by Minerva, is not only an industrial essay: it also offers an intimate portrait of Enzo Ferrari, a visionary man marked by personal tragedies. The negotiation is an essential read for those who want to understand not only the Ferrari myth, but also the dynamics of power and passion that built it.
