Suffering, dedication, and Ducati: when Marc became Marquez again

Suffering, dedication, and Ducati: when Marc became Marquez again

You should rewatch some of Marc Marquez's races from when he was with Honda and winning with them. To see his style and compare it to his current one on the Ducati. And understand how and to what extent he's changed it. Yesterday in the press room at Brno, in the so-called scrum, he explained that the changes were due mostly to the physical problems he had to deal with after the injuries of 2020. "I changed my style, especially after the injury, because I'm no longer allowed to ride aggressively for many laps," he said. "So I had to adapt to my physical condition. Now I'm fine, but I have to ride differently." There's certainly a lot of truth to that, yet last year wasn't exactly like that. The first Ducati he had, the one in 2023 with Team Gresini, he began by riding as if it were a Honda. In this sense, the season with the Romagna team was useful, very useful. Because it was necessary to understand, and change, everything. No more side-slips, no more skidding. From a certain point on, you no longer saw him entering corners, especially left-handed ones, with the wheel skidding off-center compared to the front. In his Honda days, doing so would speed up the cornering. On a Ducati, riding like that would be detrimental. And in fact, now you see him riding cleanly, looking like Jorge Lorenzo. So much so that yesterday he even added: “It's true that I feel good on the bike, and the smoother I ride, the faster I go; I like that. That said, I still have some areas I need to improve.”
