Polestar 7 to be built in Slovakia: European production for the new premium electric SUV

The Swedish high-performance brand, born from the rib of Volvo and now a protagonist of the global electric panorama, has announced that the Polestar 7, its future premium compact SUV, will be built in Košice starting from 2028. The choice is not accidental: it is a strategic step that strengthens the ties with the European market, increasingly crucial for the ambitions of the Scandinavian company.
The project takes shape from a memorandum of understanding signed with Volvo Cars , which has already started construction of the Slovakian plant in 2023. A modern structure, designed to optimize logistics flows to the main continental markets and with a network of highly specialized local suppliers. Polestar, in this context, continues its production diversification plan with the aim of reducing dependence on Asian production, while strengthening its premium positioning in Europe.
Polestar 7 will be developed on a Volvo Cars technology platform, enriched with components and solutions shared within the Geely Holding Group. A strategy that allows the brand to integrate latest-generation technologies, such as the innovative cell-to-body architecture for the battery housing, new high-performance electric units and advanced software, while maintaining a very distinct personality. The focus on driving pleasure, sporty dynamics and essential but recognizable design will also be central to this new model, designed for a demanding and quality-conscious public.
Confirming the strategic weight of the decision is Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, who underlines how the synergy with Volvo allows to accelerate innovation and guarantee technological excellence: «With Polestar 7 we will further raise the bar in the compact electric SUV segment. Producing it in Europe means being closer to the European customer, reducing logistical complexity and improving the overall sustainability of the product».
The project represents a concrete example of European industrial integration: the collaboration between Volvo and Polestar is not limited to sharing platforms, but creates a production ecosystem capable of nimbly addressing the challenges of the electric transition. A replicable industrial model, which focuses on the efficiency and added value of local production.
Košice will thus become the starting point of a new phase for Polestar. After the Polestar 2, 3 and 4 models, which have consolidated the brand's reputation in terms of design, performance and innovation, Polestar 7 promises to interpret the brand's philosophy in a more compact but equally refined way. The debut is scheduled for 2028, but the organizational machine is already in motion.
With this announcement, Polestar confirms its intention to play a leading role in the European electric vehicle market, which in the coming years will be a battleground for fierce competition between traditional manufacturers, new Chinese players and emerging startups. Focusing on European production, energy efficiency and brand identity can make the difference.
