There was great anticipation for the Fiat Grande Panda , which effectively marked the Italian brand's grand return to the B segment, a sector abandoned with the departure of the Punto in 2018. In some ways, this car also marks the first true model born from a Stellantis project. This vehicle, in fact, is the first Fiat based on the PSA CMP platform and is based on the mechanicals shared with the fourth-generation Citroën C3 and the Opel Frontera. In short, it is, without too many mincing words, the Turin brand's flagship model. However, since its release, the first awards have also arrived, and recent news has been that it has been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award .

Specifically, the model in question received the award in the "Product Design" category for its exterior and interior design. The recognition was awarded by an international jury of 43 design experts and academics. This important award was presented during Designers' Night in Essen, Germany.

An innovative project

Olivier Francois, CEO of FIAT and CMO of Stellantis Global, proudly commented on the happy news: “Our goal with the Grande Panda was to combine simplicity, ingenuity, and style. Winning the Red Dot Award with a car that so perfectly embodies the evolution of Fiat's DNA is a source of great pride. We consider this prestigious award an indication that responsible mobility can still evoke emotions.” The Grande Panda is inspired by the iconic 1980s model , which first swept Italy and then the entire world into the spotlight.

Among the standout features of the new Fiat Grande Panda is the PXL LED lighting, featuring pixelated elements that extend from the upper grille to the headlights, reminiscent of retro video games. Furthermore, the interior features a first: the use of aluminum and plastic made from recycled beverage cartons (140 cartons per vehicle). Finally, Fiat also pays attention to eco-sustainability with the innovative BAMBOX Bamboo Fiber Tex, a bamboo-based fabric used for the car's dashboard.

The goal of the Grande Panda, as Francois Leboine, Head of FIAT Design, also emphasized, was to reinterpret the iconic model that paved the way in the 1980s for what is now one of the best-selling cars of all time. Naturally, this award is an important recognition for the entire Fiat team , which has worked on the car's development over the years. It's not the first, however, as it already received another from Autocar a few weeks ago.

The importance of this award

The Red Dot Design Awards have a rich history dating back to 1955. They are recognized worldwide as a benchmark for design excellence. Specifically, this award celebrates achievements in three key areas: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept . Each year, a jury of international experts meets to evaluate the various submitted projects based on criteria such as originality, aesthetic quality, usability, and environmental impact. Receiving this recognition was certainly very important for the Grande Panda, given its immediate future goals of greening the Fiat brand and creating a new model family.
