FP2 ended at the Sachsenring with Marc Marquez reclaiming the lead at the end of the 30-minute session. Shortly before, KTM had secured a one-two finish with Vinales and Acosta leading the way. Rain began to fall at the start of the session, and the riders took to the track with wet tires, then tested slicks toward the end of the session as the track was drying, in preparation for qualifying.
