Catalan GP: Binder leads Acosta in pre-qualifying. Bagnaia finishes only 21st.

KTM continues to impress in Catalonia. At the Montmelo track, Brad Binder takes center stage, posting the fastest lap in MotoGP pre-qualifying: 1'38"141. The South African finishes 0.104 seconds ahead of his teammate Pedro Acosta, leader in FP1 . Speaking of derbies, Alex Marquez, third, wins the family battle, beating his brother Marc. The Gresini rider also shows an interesting pace on the medium tires. The Ducati rider, fourth in the afternoon session, is less impressive. Marc, however, displays good pace when tire wear is more evident.

In addition to the riders already mentioned, Marco Bezzecchi also qualified directly to Q2, finishing fifth in the afternoon session. The Aprilia rider redeemed himself from recent weekends, when he struggled to find a fast lap in pre-qualifying. Enea Bastianini finished sixth, even suffering a crash late in the session. Franco Morbidelli followed in seventh, ahead of the Hondas of Johann Zarco and Luca Marini. Ai Ogura (Trackhouse Aprilia) finished tenth, forcing a strong Fabio Quartararo into Q1. The Yamaha rider faced other disappointed big names. Fermin Aldeguer didn't shine, finishing only fourteenth. Fabio Di Giannantonio fared worse, finishing seventeenth.

Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia are struggling: curiously, for now, the protagonists on the Montmelò track in 2024 have missed out on Q2. The Spaniard, only eighteenth in pre-qualifying, needs time to find the right automaticity with the Aprilia. Pecco, however, continues to complain about a lack of understanding on the GP25. In addition to problems entering corners, the Italian Ducati rider is experiencing poor traction. The result is a disappointing twenty-first place, which will force him to participate in Q1.

Here are the top 10 finishers who will go directly to Q2 in Montmelò:

  1. 1 Binder (Saf/Ktm) 1'38”141
