BMW Surprises at the 2025 Munich Motor Show: Innovative iX3 Unveiled

BMW hosted the event in Munich, unveiling the new iX3 , a design evolution that heralds a new era. With significant advances in the construction platform, including chassis and components, the propeller-driven brand has laid the foundation for the parallel production of fully electric and combustion-engined vehicles.
At the IAA Mobility in Munich, the Neue Klasse designer's signature left its mark. The new D-segment SUV presented itself with a more minimalist look, retaining its large kidney grille. The front of the iX3 remains imposing, with some elements that break with its historical DNA. The headlights are horizontal, and the grille is slimmer. The goal is to avoid overburdening a design that appears overly bold on its larger siblings. The choice of luminous surrounds instead of chrome highlights reflects this modernity, which will also inspire future models in the range. Smooth surfaces on the sides and a large tailgate with horizontal headlights complete a body that will not go unnoticed on the road.
New BMW technology on display at the 2025 Munich Motor ShowThe new BMW iX3 is larger than the previous model series. It measures 4.78 meters in length, 1.63 meters in height, 1.89 meters in width, and has a wheelbase of 2.89 meters. Everything is designed to enhance passenger comfort. The longer wheelbase provides more legroom for rear passengers. The new instrument cluster stands out, not in a traditional dashboard or display behind the steering wheel, but extending across the entire lower portion of the windshield.
The hexagonal touchscreen display allows you to manage the infotainment, climate control, and all other controls. Gone is the traditional gear lever, replaced by tactile selectors, with quality materials including synthetic leather and recycled fabrics, offering a wide range of customization options. The trunk offers a basic 520 liters of space, and in the fully electric version, there's an additional 58 liters of front cargo space.
Engines and pricesBMW wants to leave nothing to chance and will focus on a strategy that will embrace the production of internal combustion engines with electrification and 100% electric power, with the possibility of sharing control units, wiring, sensors, and other essential components to keep costs down. The new electric variant of the BMW X3 will be offered in several versions, starting with a single motor on the rear axle, while the more powerful versions will feature two motors, one per axle, offering all-wheel drive with a three-phase asynchronous electric motor at the front. The launch version has 469 hp (350 kW) and 645 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 210 km/h .
For its new SUV, the Bavarian manufacturer has announced a range of up to 800 km in the WLTP cycle, with a 108 kWh battery. The 800 V architecture will allow fast charging with up to 400 kW of maximum DC power, for a 21-minute charge from 10% to 80%, or 10 minutes to achieve a range of 350 km. Pricing? The BMW iX3 50 starts at €69,900 , about €5,000 more than the X3. We'll have to wait a few weeks to find out the specifics of all the versions. It will hit the market starting in fall 2025.
