BMW iX3 debuts in Italy: up to 805 km, the Neue Klasse begins

At the 2025 Turin Motor Show, the BMW iX3 debuts before the Italian public as the poster child for the Neue Klasse: not simply a generational transition, but the launch of a platform that will transform the way we understand the pleasure of driving with zero local emissions. Within the confines of Piazza Castello, Piazzetta Reale, and the Royal Gardens, the electric sports activity vehicle showcases a new design language, featuring clean proportions and taut surfaces. Above all, it brings the sixth generation of eDrive technology to the road, the heart of a project that promises true efficiency, extended range, and short charging times.
The numbers, in this case, speak volumes: up to 805 km of certified range in the WLTP cycle, average power consumption between 17.9 and 15.1 kWh/100 km, and peak charging of up to 400 kW. Translated, the iX3 is poised to combine long journeys with everyday urban life without planning worries, supported by a redesigned electronic architecture and proprietary software that manages energy, infotainment, and dynamics with four dedicated "super brains." The ride, responsive torque, and progressive acceleration create behavior consistent with BMW tradition, while the electric all-wheel drive of the 50 xDrive version—345 kW/469 hp—ensures traction and control on both wet and slippery surfaces.
On board, the BMW Panoramic iDrive reimagines the interface: expansive graphics, intuitive controls, driver focus, and the "glove-like" ergonomics that have shaped the brand's history. The digital transition isn't a one-off, but a way to streamline daily tasks: fewer steps, more immediacy, over-the-air updates, and native integration of connected services. All this within a measurable sustainability framework, because the new iX3 is designed to reduce its carbon footprint across its entire life cycle by more than 30% compared to the previous model, a goal made possible by shorter supply chains, select materials, and more efficient energy management.
The context of the premiere adds significance. Turin, the city that taught Italy how to build cars, becomes an open-air setting for prototypes, technologies, and series production. Here, the iX3 leads the way in a family destined to spread its solutions across forty new models and updates by 2027. “The Neue Klasse is our most important project for the future and marks a huge leap forward in terms of technologies, driving experience, and design,” emphasized Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “What began as a bold vision is now a reality: the BMW iX3 is the first Neue Klasse model to enter series production, ushering in a new era for BMW.”
The timetable is already set. The iX3 will be produced at the BMW Group's new plant in Debrecen , Hungary, with the first units arriving in fall 2025. The commercial launch in Europe is scheduled for spring 2026, while in the United States it will arrive in summer 2026. Deliveries of a variant built in Shenyang for the Chinese market will also begin in summer 2026. Meanwhile, in Italy, the model is already configurable and available to order: the launch BMW iX3 50 xDrive starts at €69,900, positioning it as a high-profile entry point to an ecosystem that makes 400 kW charging and next-generation software its hallmarks.
More than an update, the new iX3 feels like it's skipped an evolutionary step. The design introduces refined aerodynamics, helping boost range; the electronic platform boosts computing power for active safety and driver assistance; the infotainment system opens up to services and content as effortlessly as turning a key in the ignition. The result is a car that speaks equally to early adopters and to those who are now approaching electric mobility seeking certainties: reduced downtime, extended range, seamless connectivity.
The Turin Motor Show thus offers the ideal stage for a first physical encounter with the Neue Klasse project. Just a few meters from the prototypes and concept cars, the iX3 appears like a finished product, ready for the road and for real life: family, work, travel, and evening commutes with a reassuring battery life. It is within this evolved normality that BMW builds its narrative, with a clear promise to the driver: electric, yes, but without sacrificing what has always defined a BMW—control, precision, and pleasure.
