911 Spirit 70, Porsche pays homage to the Seventies

ROME - First there was the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, presented in 2020 and inspired by the design of the 1950s and early 1960s, then it was the turn of the 911 Sport Classic, the second collector's model of the Heritage Design strategy that retraced the style of the 1960s and early 1970s. Now, with the new 911 Spirit 70, these days in European dealerships at a price of 250,153 euros (for Italy), Porsche pays homage to the essence of the 1970s and early 1980s.

Numerous details hark back to the original look of the 911 Spirit 70. For example, the satin black Pasha pattern on the dial is inspired by the centre seat insert of the original model. Porsche designers and paint experts created the colour Olive Neo especially for the 911 Spirit 70: a deep, intense green with modern nuances that creates a sophisticated contrast with the Bronzite colour. The lower rear end, the front section and the Sport Classic wheels in “Fuchs” design are painted in this grey-gold tone. The soft top is black, as is the windscreen frame, underlining the visual uniqueness of the 911 Spirit 70. Three decorative stripes in satin black run across the bonnet, a detail that is reminiscent of the safety stickers typical of the 1970s: at the time, sports car drivers applied longitudinal stripes to the body of their cars to make them more visible in the rear-view mirror when driving at high speed on the motorway or race track. The stripes are repeated, tone-on-tone, on the hood, while the decorative side graphics with the Porsche lettering and the round field for the racing number are in satin black, as is the personalised starting number.

In the centre of the front bonnet, the 911 Spirit 70 sports a Porsche crest that is almost identical to the historic one from 1963, and the Porsche Heritage badge, reminiscent of the 356, is positioned on the rear bonnet grille. The highlight of the interior is the iconic Pasha fabric pattern in Black/Olive Neo with the fabric graphic reminiscent of a waving checkered flag. Instead of jacquard velour as in the past, the 911 Spirit 70 uses a fabric composed of flocked fibres, which stands out for its even sportier character, a more pleasant texture and greater comfort. The Pasha pattern is used to cover the centre section of the 18-way Sports seats Plus, the exterior mirrors and even the inside of the glove compartment. A reversible trunk mat, also in the Pasha design, is also included as standard. The instrument cluster combines classic style with cutting-edge technology, offering a high-resolution 12.65” display featuring white indicators and analogue scale lines, while the green numerals are reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 356 and the model lettering is elegantly integrated into the fully digital rev counter.

“The Heritage Design models occupy a special position in our product strategy in terms of design,” emphasized Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche. “The limited-edition sports cars express what makes the Porsche brand so special. The design of all our models is linked to our history, but these cars go beyond that, expressing our reinterpretation of stylistic elements from the past in latest-generation sports cars.” (Maurilio Rigo)
