This highway will be partially closed in August – a real hassle for many holidaymakers

While they are intended to improve the safety of our roads, roadworks are rarely very popular. Although they are more numerous in the summer, when large cities are empty of their inhabitants, they can still have major repercussions on traffic. This is undoubtedly what will happen during the month of August when part of a motorway will be closed night and day for... three and a half weeks!
This closure, which will take effect from Monday, August 4 at 10 p.m., affects the A14 motorway, located west of Paris. Several sections of this motorway—only 21 kilometers long—will be closed to traffic in the direction of the provinces and Paris near the La Défense business district. Work is planned to modernize the covered lanes and install a new smoke extraction system in case of fire on the Voie des Bâtisseurs.

This is likely to complicate life for many motorists in August. While several alternative routes will be proposed (see below), the closure of part of the A14 is likely to cause serious traffic jams during holiday returns from Normandy, a region that is certainly less busy in summer than the Atlantic coast and the Côte d'Azur but is nevertheless favored by some families.
In addition to these journeys, there will be those of the August "workers" coming from the west of Paris, who will contribute to traffic congestion as you approach the capital. If these works will impact one or more of your upcoming journeys, the Paris-La Défense website ( https://www.parisladefense.com/fr/infos-pratiques/actualites/fermeture-a-14-aout ) indicates the proposed diversions to bypass the closed sections of motorway. Here they are:
Diversion route from the A14 towards Province-Paris:
- continue on the A14 then take exit 4 towards La Défense – Centre
- then continue on the D914 and take the direction of Paris/Neuilly-sur-Seine
- join the N13 towards Paris
Diversion route from Puteaux (Rose de Cherbourg side):
- continue then take the D9A towards La Défense Centre
- continue on D9 towards Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt
- at the traffic lights, turn left towards Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt
- then join the D914 and take the direction Pais/Neuilly-sur-Seine
- join the N13 towards Paris
Detour route from La Garenne-Colombes/Courbevoie (Trinity side):
- drive straight towards La Défense Centre
- continue on the D9 following Other directions
- then continue on the D9 towards Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt
- at the traffic lights, turn left towards Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt
- then join the D914 and take the direction of Paris/Neuilly-sur-Seine
- join the N13 towards Paris
Already subject to closures in 2025, notably for the dismantling of toll equipment in order to transform the Paris-Normandy axis into free flow, the A14 will once again be fully accessible from Wednesday, August 27 in the morning.
