Three spectators died this Saturday during the Fourme car rally, held in Puy-de-Dôme. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in Le Cros, in the commune of Saint-Just, in the eastern part of the department. The victims were hit by a car that left the road, according to the prefecture.

Among the victims, two spectators were killed instantly. A third person, who was also watching the race, was taken to Clermont-Ferrand hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died a few hours later. The three victims were two brothers aged 70 and 60, and a 44-year-old father.

The driver was slightly injured and was taken to Ambert hospital.

Several people present at the time of the accident were "shocked." A psychological support unit was opened to care for them.

The area was off-limits to the public

The rally was stopped. Spectators were asked to evacuate the area. An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of this tragic accident. According to initial reports, the victims were in an area that had been closed to the public.

This rally had already experienced a tragedy last year: the race steward was killed while responding to an accident. He was 42 years old.
