Most stolen cars: behind the Clio, 3008 and 308, the Toyota RAV4 is the new favorite target

A podium almost unchanged compared to last year . The Renault Clio and the Peugeot 3008 and 308 are in fact at the top of the ranking of the most stolen cars in France in 2024, published in the latest issue of Auto Plus .
Logically, the most popular models are at the top of the ranking. The Clio 4 thus remained the number one target for thieves with 2,283 cases recorded last year. The weakness of the security system against electronic theft and its spare parts that are sold on the parallel market make it a privileged target, notes the specialist magazine. The next generation, the Clio 5, is already in eighth place.
The top 10 is made up of almost only French-made cars, with two exceptions: the Toyota RAV4 (6th) and the C-HR (10th).
The RAV4 even stands out as the most stolen vehicle in proportion to its presence in the French vehicle fleet, with a frequency of 214 thefts for 10,000 units in circulation.
An impressive figure: for the Clio and Peugeot 308 and 3008, there are between 27 and 34 thefts per 10,000 units.
The second most frequently stolen model is another Toyota, the small C-HR SUV, but with 57 thefts for every 10,000 cars on the road.
Auto Plus points out a faulty security system for these two models. The RAV4 remains very popular for "its reliability, robustness and resale value".
