Electric cars with European batteries: the government announces an additional bonus of 1,000 euros

Electric cars with European batteries: the government announces an additional bonus of 1,000 euros
The government announced on Monday that it will pay this bonus to buyers of an electric car powered by a battery assembled in Europe.

The government announced on Monday that it will pay an additional bonus of 1,000 euros to buyers of electric cars powered by a European battery.

"To continue supporting the purchase of electric vehicles by households and the transition of the automotive industry in Europe, the Government is announcing the introduction, from October 1, of an exceptional additional bonus of 1,000 euros for the purchase of environmentally friendly electric vehicles, provided they are assembled in Europe and equipped with a European battery," said a press release from the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

Following the increase in the ecological bonus since July 1st , the press release clearly states that this aid of 1,000 euros will be added to this existing aid.

The ecological bonus has thus increased from 2,000 to 3,100 euros for most buyers (without income conditions) and can reach 4,200 euros for the least wealthy households.

Adding the 1,000 euros for cars with a battery assembled in Europe, the maximum aid reaches 5,200 euros and 4,100 euros without income conditions.

The measure appears to apply immediately, with a "list of eligible vehicles which will be published on the Ademe website in the coming days and updated each month at the same time as the list of vehicles achieving the minimum environmental score," notes the ministry's press release.

"The bonus announced today aims to encourage the relocation of the electric vehicle value chain and support industrial employment on our continent. Many battery manufacturing plants have been established in France and Europe. This bonus will help support these factories in their ramp-up, by encouraging manufacturers to source from European factories," emphasizes the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

Most automotive groups such as Stellantis , the Renault group, or more recently Toyota have started or announced their intention to launch the production of batteries for electric cars in Europe.
