Automobile. UFC-Que Choisir warns of the reduction in aid for the purchase of electric cars.

This is bad news for households looking to switch to electric vehicles. A collateral victim of the government's new budget cuts, subsidies for the purchase of electric cars have been halved, dropping from €1.5 billion to €700 million in 2025.

This represents a major blow to low-income households looking to invest in a less polluting vehicle. While the cost of purchasing a combustion-engine car is around €26,774, the average price of an electric car exceeds €42,900. This is a deterrent for many French people, who are also seeing the bonus for used cars disappear.

"These setbacks directly compromise the transition to less polluting vehicles, particularly for households dependent on cars and without a credible alternative," the study warns. UFC-Que Choisir is calling for more "consistency" from the State and local authorities "by aligning eligibility criteria (income, Crit'Air, price and weight of the vehicle)."

The association also hopes that zero-interest loans will be set up with banks, while pointing out that to date, "no banking establishment has agreed a contract with the State."
