The price of gasoline in Spain is 8% cheaper than the European average.

Spanish drivers are enjoying a bit of relief this August. Fuel prices have fallen by 0.2% in the last week, and even more notably, filling up is up to €6.40 cheaper than in 2024. But the most notable fact, in the midst of the holiday exodus, is that prices in Spain remain significantly below the European average.
Specifically, the average price per liter of 95% unleaded gasoline is €1.486, well below the European Union average of €1.623.
This means that gasoline prices in Spain are approximately 8% cheaper than in the rest of the continent, according to data from the EU Petroleum Bulletin.
The price drop was felt across both fuels. Diesel, which had been rising for three weeks, broke that trend with a 0.2% drop to €1.432 per liter. Gasoline, which had remained stable, also fell by 0.2%.
This decrease comes at a key time, with more than 52.871 million trips expected on Spanish roads during the summer. Filling an average 55-liter tank of diesel now costs around €78.76, €2.31 less than last year. For gasoline, the savings are even greater: €81.73 per tank, €6.43 less than in August 2024.
Furthermore, the current prices of both fuels remain far from the historic highs reached in 2022 and remain below the levels prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Diesel, meanwhile, has now been priced below gasoline for 127 weeks, returning to pre-conflict levels.
Fuel prices reflect multiple factors, such as their specific price, the evolution of crude oil prices, taxes, logistics costs, and companies' gross margins. Despite fluctuations in the international market, prices in Spain manage to remain below the eurozone average.
