The OCU reveals the electric cars with the best value for money based on their range and size.

The OCU reveals the electric cars with the best value for money based on their range and size.

Good, beautiful, and cheap. The Holy Grail of any discerning buyer also exists in the electric vehicle market. Although the preconceived idea is that a zero-emission car always entails a high outlay , the truth is that some models stand out for their balance of price, range, and performance, demonstrating that electric mobility can also be accessible to the general public.

This is confirmed by the latest analysis of electric cars by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), which offers a ranking of the most cost-effective models in terms of price-performance ratio. The classification distinguishes between small, medium, and large vehicles, making it easier to choose based on each driver's needs and budget.

Beyond design and technology, what really tips the balance in the electric market is range . Knowing how far a car can go on a single charge remains one of the biggest concerns for buyers, and one that most influences their user experience. That's why the OCU (Spanish Consumer Organization) has used this variable as the main basis for its ranking of the most cost-effective models.

In the small electric car segment, the offering has expanded considerably, with models offering an attractive combination of range and price. These vehicles are ideal for urban mobility and daily commuting, where agility and easy parking are a differentiating factor. Most of them have sufficient range to cover most daily journeys without the need for frequent recharging.

Within the current electric vehicle offering, mid-size models stand out for their overall balance. They combine sufficient space, good performance, and a range that allows for both daily use and medium-distance getaways. With prices around €40,000, some of these vehicles can achieve over 350 km of real-world driving range, making them a well-rounded option for those seeking versatility without sacrificing comfort or efficient driving.

For those who need more space, comfort, and cargo capacity, full-size electric vehicles are an increasingly attractive alternative. These vehicles are designed for families, long journeys, or more demanding uses, with ranges that can exceed 400 km on the highway. Although their price is higher, models like the Tesla Model 3 or the Toyota BZ4X demonstrate that it's possible to combine spaciousness, technology, and efficiency without breaking the bank.

The OCU (Spanish Consumer Organization) reminds us that the actual range of an electric car is often lower than the approved range, especially on the road. Therefore, in its analysis, it applies more stringent criteria to offer a more accurate comparison of real-life usage conditions. Specifically, it considers an average electricity consumption 15% higher than the approved range and estimates the road range at 70% of the official figure.
