The best June in years: more than 119,000 cars sold, and hybrids soared

The new passenger car market continues its strong run , adding a total of 119,125 units in June, representing a 15.2% growth. This figure marks the best record of the year and the second consecutive month with sales above 115,000 units. Both the strong pace of the electrified market, which accounts for 20% of the total, and the boost derived from sales in the DANA Zone, thanks to the subsidies from the Reinicia Auto+ Plan, which has been extended until October, are playing a decisive role in this positive market development.
In the first half of the year, there have already been 609,801 new passenger car sales, a 13.9% increase over the same period last year. Even so, the market is still 12% lower than the 2019 figures, prior to the pandemic.
Regarding average CO2 emissions from passenger cars sold in June, they fell to 101.9 grams of CO2 per kilometer traveled, 13% lower than the average emissions from new passenger cars sold in the same month in 2024. For the cumulative total for 2025, average emissions stood at 107.5%, 8.7% lower than in the first half of 2024.
And regarding sales by channel, only the rental market suffered a slight decline of 1.5% in June. The private market maintained its strong pace , adding 48,836 new units, 28.8% more than the same month last year. Similarly, sales to businesses grew 14.2%, with 42,208 units.
Light commercial vehiclesLight commercial vehicle registrations grew by 13.6% in June, with 18,551 units. For the year as a whole, there were 94,911 sales, an increase of 11.1%. Regarding sales by channel, both self-employed and corporate sales increased by 5% and 19.6%, respectively. This contrasted with the rental market, which decreased by 1%.
Industrial and busesIn June, registrations of commercial vehicles, buses, coaches, and minibuses fell again, with a 4.6% drop and 2,974 sales. For the year as a whole, they totaled 16,219 units, 12.7% fewer than in 2024. By vehicle type, the largest decline came from commercial vehicles, which fell 6.2% to 2,597 sales. Meanwhile, sales of buses and minibuses increased by 8%, with 377 new units sold.
The opinion of the expertsFélix García, director of communications and marketing at Anfac, explained that "June was the month in which the most passenger cars were sold so far this year, surpassing 119,000 units. Furthermore, we have had two consecutive months with deliveries exceeding 115,000. This is good news. Based on the data, we see that hybrids continue to rise, while diesel now accounts for less than 6% of monthly sales. Regarding electrification, registrations continue to increase despite the slowness in processing the Moves III grants, whose budget will not arrive until the end of the year. All in all, we closed the semester above 600,000 units and with a 14% increase, which makes us optimistic about trying to close the year with 1.1 million passenger cars sold, closer to the 1.25 million delivered in 2019."
Raúl Morales, communications director at Faconauto, stated that "The automotive market in our country has performed much better than expected in this first half of the year, and the main reason is that sales of electrified vehicles now account for almost 20% of all registrations, as supply has kept pace with demand."
