September ends with 114 deaths on Spanish roads, thirteen more than a year ago.

A total of 114 people died on Spanish roads during the month of September, with 105 fatal accidents. This figure is 13 more deaths than in the same month in 2024.
This was reported by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) , which highlighted that there has also been an increase in mobility, with a 1.3% increase compared to September of last year, with 40.7 million long-distance movements recorded.
Likewise, 861 people have died on the roads so far this year, 17 fewer than in the same period last year.
By road type, figures collected by Europa Press show an increase in fatalities on conventional roads, with twelve more than in the same month last year. A total of 29 people died on dual carriageways and motorways, while 85 lost their lives on secondary roads.
Regarding the means of transport, September saw an increase in the number of vulnerable users who died with 45 people, 10 more than in September 2024. On the contrary, deaths in tourism (48) and vans (7) have decreased with two and one fewer deaths, respectively, compared to the same month of the previous year.
The number of deaths from head-on, side, and front-to-side collisions (nine more deaths), road exits (four more deaths), and run-overs (three more deaths) also increased this month, while the number of deaths from rear-end and multiple collisions decreased by six.
Regarding the use of safety systems, the DGT has detailed that thirteen of the deceased were not using any safety devices: ten car drivers and two truck drivers were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, and one motorcyclist was not wearing the required helmet.
By age group, the figures indicate that the number of deaths among those over 45 has increased by 16 compared to the same month in 2024, while, on the other hand, the number of deaths among those between 25 and 44 has decreased by fourteen.
By autonomous community, Andalusia has the highest number of deaths this September, with 19, while Castile and León has the largest decrease, with 6 deaths, 10 fewer than in the same month in September 2024.
Likewise, the day with the highest number of fatalities was Tuesday the 2nd, with 9 deaths. In contrast, during the month of September, there was one day with 0 deaths: Wednesday the 24th.
