Renault showcases the 5 Turbo 3E in Madrid ahead of its 2027 launch: a small, 555-hp electric beast that costs €160,000.

The Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 of the 1980s were admired and long-desired cars for all sports car enthusiasts. They were nothing like the so-called "normal" R-5s of the time, as their mid-engine rear-wheel drive and powerful 160-hp turbo engine served as the basis for a street-legal racing car. The new Renault 5 Turbo 3E is, therefore, a modern, electric reinterpretation of the legendary "fat ass" (due to its track width) of the 1980s.

It is one of the most impressive cars of recent times, a truly special automobile that Renault has decided to exhibit to the public for the first time - until September 22 - in Madrid, specifically at rnlt Madrid , the meeting point for the French brand's customers in the city center.

Renault has already opened reservations for its "mini-supercar," which will arrive in 2027. It's available from €160,000, a price as "special" as the car itself. However, the brand explains that this is a provisional recommended retail price and is subject to change. Its markets will be Europe (including the United Kingdom), the Middle East, Japan, and Australia.

An exceptional car requires an exceptional marketing process. Customers wishing to secure the purchase of one of the 1,980 numbered examples of the 5 Turbo 3E can fill out a form on the Renault website. The dealer of their choice will contact them to schedule an appointment, during which they will place a €50,000 deposit, giving them priority to purchase the car. Furthermore, upon payment, they will have the option to choose their car number.

In early 2026, lucky customers will receive a notification from their dealership to specify their choice and be able to personalize their car. In addition to the historic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 liveries, such as pomegranate red, or racing liveries, such as black, yellow, and white, reminiscent of the Renault 5 Turbo that won the 1982 Tour de Corse, they will be able to choose other styles worthy of "gentleman drivers."

With a spectacular design, its production is limited to only 1,980 units.

Renault also offers the opportunity to meet with the design teams to create your own configuration, both exterior and interior, with numerous customizable elements in colors and materials: seats, door panels, and dashboard. During the first half of 2027, the vehicle will be fully configured and ordered from the dealership. The reservation fee will be deducted from the total amount due, depending on the configuration chosen.

With an architecture specifically designed for a battery-powered car, it measures 4.08 meters in length and 2.03 meters in width. Furthermore, the new French beast weighs just 1,450 kg, very little for an electric vehicle with two motors located on the rear axle. The goal was to create a car as light as possible to maximize its agility and efficiency, in line with today's supercars. With a power output of 555 hp, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h.

With a 70 kWh battery located beneath the car's floor, Alpine Cars' engineers in charge of development have taken advantage of a very low center of gravity to realize their vision of maximum agility, performance, and drifting capabilities. It features a dedicated drift assist function and a vertical handbrake to generate truly thrilling driving sensations. Carbon fiber is also used in the vehicle's structure.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E has also been designed for the track, capable of performing hot laps thanks to its performance, before rapidly recharging using its 800-volt infrastructure and 350 kW DC charging power.

And for overtaking, the steering wheel has a button that activates a power boost. Another button adjusts regenerative braking to four levels. At the same time, the driver has four driving modes with multi-sense settings: regular, snow, sport, and race, with the "drift assist" function integrated into the latter.

Renault has created an interior with a distinctly sporty spirit, featuring seats with six-point harnesses and a host of carbon elements to reduce weight, along with materials like Alcantara for the seats and dashboard. The rally-style vertical handbrake will be the highlight of this high-voltage environment.

For the driver, the 10.10-inch and 10.25-inch openR screens display all information, navigation, and multimedia information via an interface that pays homage to the heritage of the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 instrument cluster. And the openR link system with Google integration, present in the Renault range, allows you to take advantage of numerous constantly evolving Google services. Such as Google Maps, which integrates electric trip planning and charging scheduling to your chosen destination.
