Porsche expands the 911 family with the arrival of the all-wheel drive Coupé, Cabriolet, and Targa versions.

Porsche expands the 911 family with the arrival of the all-wheel drive Coupé, Cabriolet, and Targa versions.

Porsche continues to refine its legendary 911 with the introduction of three new models that promise to double the available all-wheel drive options.

The star of the show is the brand-new 911 Carrera 4S, which arrives in Coupé, Cabriolet, and Targa 4S versions, strategically positioning itself below the powerful GTS models. This launch not only expands the range to a total of six all-wheel-drive variants, but also underscores Porsche's commitment to safety and performance in all weather conditions.

At the heart of these new additions is a comprehensively revised 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine, now delivering 353 kW (480 hp). This represents an increase of 22 kW (30 hp) over its predecessors, thanks in part to an optimized intercooler system inherited directly from the 911 Turbo.

Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed Porsche Dual Clutch Transmission (PDK), enabling the 911 Carrera 4S Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a lightning-fast 3.3 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and reach a top speed of 308 km/h (190 mph).

The choice of all-wheel drive is a constant for around half of the customers who opt for the S variants of the 911, and with good reason. The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system guarantees exceptional traction and increased stability, especially in adverse weather conditions or on challenging roads.

Although the design of these models prioritizes rear-wheel-oriented driving dynamics, the PTM can transfer torque to the front axle when necessary. The elegant body of the 911 Targa is available exclusively with all-wheel drive, consolidating its position as a reliable all-season convertible.

The launch of the new variants coincides with the 60th anniversary of the 911 Targa, a model with a fascinating history. Introduced in 1965 in response to safety concerns about convertibles in the American market, it was nicknamed the "safety cabriolet," and its distinctive wide roll bar was inspired by motorsports.

Over time, the Targa evolved from a manually removable roof to fully automatic mechanisms that transform the coupé into a convertible in just 19 seconds, while maintaining the essence and design reminiscent of the original model.

The new 911 Carrera 4S variants not only impress with their performance, but also with significantly improved standard equipment. They include 20- and 21-inch Carrera S wheels with an updated design, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), and a sports exhaust system that guarantees the characteristic 911 sound. The braking system, inherited from the GTS models, features red calipers and large discs (408 mm at the front and 380 mm at the rear).

In addition, the 911 Targa 4S comes standard with rear-wheel steering. Inside, these all-wheel-drive sports cars offer a leather package, Matrix LED headlights, and wireless smartphone charging as standard. The equipment is completed with electrically folding exterior mirrors, the Light Design Package, automatically dimming rearview mirrors with integrated rain sensor, and lane departure warning. Porsche maintains its extensive range of customization options, allowing customers to customize their 911 with countless combinations of colors, materials, and assistance systems.

With this expansion of the 911 range and its double homage to all-wheel drive and the iconic Targa, Porsche is not only celebrating six decades of innovative design, but also reaffirming its commitment to constant evolution, offering sports car enthusiasts an unparalleled combination of excitement, performance, and safety on the road.
