Operation Exit 2025: 8 key points to avoid getting stuck on the road

Operation Exit 2025: 8 key points to avoid getting stuck on the road

With the first major Operation Exit of Summer 2025 just around the corner, scheduled for this Friday, June 27, the sight of cars stranded on the hard shoulder is a recurring nightmare for many drivers.

The main breakdowns that usually arise during this time are directly related to heat and overexertion. Engine overheating is perhaps the most serious and frequent breakdown. High external temperatures, combined with intensive engine operation (especially in traffic jams or with the air conditioning on full blast), can cause the cooling system to become overwhelmed.

Second in frequency, air conditioning system failures stand out. Paradoxically, when we need it most, the air conditioning can fail. Constant use after a period of inactivity, combined with heat, exposes its components.

Although more commonly associated with cold weather, high temperatures are also very damaging to the battery. Excessive heat accelerates electrolyte evaporation and can cause overcharging. Another major problem is tire wear and blowouts. Hot asphalt becomes much more abrasive and increases the internal temperature of the tire. If the pressure is inadequate or the tread is worn, the risk increases.

To prevent this and ensure a safe trip, Euromaster recommends a thorough inspection of eight essential vehicle components.

They are the only contact point with the asphalt. Make sure the tread is at least 1.6 mm (0.04 in) thick and that the pressure is adequate for good grip and durability.

The engine's "vital fluid." Check its level and condition, and change it and the filter if necessary, to avoid costly breakdowns (up to €8,000) and optimize fuel consumption.

Ensure the brake fluid is at optimal levels and that the pads are changed on time (cost between 80 and 140 euros) to prevent damage to the discs and ensure safe braking.

Vital for car stability and control. Shock absorbers in poor condition compromise the effectiveness of the brakes and steering, directly affecting safety.

In summer, it's crucial to prevent engine overheating and potentially serious breakdowns (up to €8,000 in repairs). Changing a new one costs around €40-€70.

Wiper blades in good condition and sufficient fluid ensure clear visibility, which is essential during summer storms.

Check that all your lights are working properly. They're essential for seeing and being seen, especially when traveling at night or in poor visibility.

Ensures a smooth start. It is recommended to check it annually, considering its average lifespan is about five years.

To avoid these breakdowns and ensure a smooth ride, a preventive vehicle checkup is essential before each summer.
