Ford launched a hybrid SUV that promises to travel 1,200 km on a single tank and arrives in the country without import duties.

Ford Argentina launched its new Territory hybrid , an electrified version of the SUV that is imported from China and is among the most popular choices among local users.

This is a variant with two electric motors and one gasoline engine that combine and alternate their operation to achieve remarkable power and torque values ​​and, at the same time, low fuel consumption: according to the brand, 1,200 kilometers can be traveled with a full tank.

The arrival of this new version comes just days after the oval brand announced a new investment in its General Pacheco plant to produce a plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger pickup, starting in 2027.

The Territory Hybrid is one of the models that qualifies for the import tariff benefit launched by the government this year. To qualify, it must be an electrified vehicle with an FOB value (before loading onto the ship at its place of manufacture) of up to $16,000. This exempts it from the 35% import tariff.

This positions it between the two versions currently offered (SEL and Titanium), both of which have a gasoline engine. It's worth noting that this model has been the best-selling mid-size SUV on the market for the past two months .

The new Ford Territory hybrid is identical to the other available versions. The only distinction is a unique wheel design for this variant.

But of course the differences lie in its propulsion system, composed of two electric motors, one gasoline engine , an automatic transmission exclusive to hybrid systems and a high-voltage battery.

Unlike an electric car or a plug-in hybrid, the Territory hybrid does not need to be plugged in, but uses its own combustion engine and braking phases to generate electricity.

Its operation is also managed automatically, with the system deciding which motors to use based on the driving conditions . To initiate movement or travel at low speeds, it generally operates solely on the electricity stored in the battery.

Once it starts to run out, the engines begin to work in series: the combustion engine sends energy to one of the electric motors that works as a generator to recharge the battery, and the other electric motor is the one that continues to move the vehicle.

But they can also work in parallel, with the combustion engine primarily responsible for moving the wheels, while the electric traction motor intervenes to provide agility during speed changes.

And there is one last alternative which is when all the components (combustion engine, electric traction motor and generator) work together to deliver the maximum possible combined torque and power .

That's where the impressive figures come from, such as the combined 245 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque , in addition to a range of 1,200 kilometers on a single tank of fuel (60 liters). According to the manufacturer, that figure was calculated based on mixed city and highway driving.

The rest of the vehicle offers the same attributes as the Territory known until now: a large interior space, high quality finish and materials and a good level of equipment.

This version is positioned between the other two options, including features such as leatherette interior trim, a panoramic roof, dual screens, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity .

In terms of safety, it includes 6 airbags (front, front side and curtain) and assistance systems such as blind spot radar, cross traffic alert and hill start assist, among others.

In addition, Ford offers an application that allows users to interact with their vehicle remotely via their phone , with features such as remote start and stop, door opening and closing, climate control, vehicle information (fuel level, tire pressure) and vehicle location.

The new Territory hybrid launches with a price of $51,380,000 and a 3-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty. Additionally, the hybrid system's battery has a specific 8-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty.
