An 18-year-old girl shares her nighttime routine of living and sleeping in her Fiat 500, and people can't believe it: "At least you have a safe place to park."

The desert heat forces us to find creative ways to sleep comfortably. This is how an 18-year-old girl explains, spending the night in her Fiat 500, parked outside a friend's house in Arizona.
He pays $50 a month for this permanent spot, which saves him from having to scour the streets for parking before bed. From that starting point, he organizes every detail to ensure he can rest, even if the space is limited.
He says he starts by placing covers on all the windows and leaving the air conditioning on full blast until the interior cools down a bit. He also turns on a small fan to move the air around. “My car is a convertible, so if it’s really hot, I open the roof,” he says. He opts for light clothing, usually shorts and T-shirts, to better withstand the high nighttime temperatures.
Once parked, she doesn't lie down right away. She usually spends some time on her phone, sometimes in the fully reclined passenger seat. Other times, she lies down in the back seat, although she has to bend her legs to adjust to the space. "It can take me a while to fall asleep," she says.
Grooming also adapts to life in the car. Brushing your teeth can be done at a gym, a gas station, or, depending on the day, in your vehicle. When you choose the latter option, you plan for a quick, one-stop process. "I do a lot of these things at the gym or any gas station," you explain.
When night falls and the car is ready, the interior is pitch black thanks to the blankets. The fan and air conditioning help maintain a bearable temperature, essential in an area where nights are still hot. The young woman says that sleeping next to her friend's house gives her peace of mind and saves her extra trips.
While others search for a parking spot every day, she already has her spot secured and a tried-and-tested method for spending the night. It may not be the largest bedroom, but it's enough for her to carry on with her routine without worrying about where to sleep.
