5 new 125cc high-wheel scooters you can drive with a driver's license and cost less than 3,000 euros.

5 new 125cc high-wheel scooters you can drive with a driver's license and cost less than 3,000 euros.

For many years, talking about high-wheel scooters meant talking almost exclusively about the Scoopy . It's no wonder the SH paved the way and was, and remains, the benchmark in its class. Naturally, the success of Honda's vehicle model prompted other competitors to launch similarly designed models, and since then, the range has grown ever more numerous.

They all share the virtues that have made high-wheel models the preferred style of many riders, primarily the 16-inch rim, which provides dynamic sensations closer to those of a lightweight motorcycle (the rear rim size varies depending on the manufacturer), and a flat floor that makes it easier to grab the handlebars.

Today we're introducing five models recently launched in stores that are packed with technology, can be driven with a B license, and cost under the psychological barrier of €3,000.

QJ Motor SQ16

The QJ Motor brand—a brand of the giant Geely Group that arrives in Spain through Motos Bordoy—is the latest to arrive in our market. It offers such interesting features as a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 4V engine that, with its 15 hp, makes it the most powerful in its segment, just shy of the legal limit for driving with a car license.

QJ's philosophy is to make motorcycles that last a long time and consume little fuel, and this scooter is designed with that in mind. Its 7.8-liter tank, located in the front fender, allows for a range of nearly 275 kilometers. At 136 kg (300 lbs) in running order, it's one of the lightest options.

Its features include full-LED headlights, dual-channel ABS, TCS traction control, and an anti-theft immobilizer. Under the seat, there's a storage compartment for a helmet, a USB port behind the shield, a bag hook, a smart key system, remote seat opening, and more.

The Jets-owned Marivent brand offers the most minimalist option among the new high-wheel models. Along with the common 16" front and 14" rear wheel architecture, we find a liquid-cooled engine that delivers 11 hp and a claimed fuel consumption of 2.5 liters per 100 km for 159 kg. Braking is provided by a combined CBS system.

It's a different kind of scooter, one that prioritizes functionality, durability, and endurance for everyday city battles. The large driver's seat stands out for maximum comfort. Its equipment is also minimalist but also includes thoughtful touches, such as a touchscreen TFT digital display and proximity key with a location button and alarm. It also offers a USB port for charging mobile devices, a storage hook, and space under the seat for a jet helmet.

Alberto Cervetti

The Italian brand, owned by the Keeway Group, has named this scooter "Urban Grace"—"Urban Elegance"—and its lines are truly attractive. Attention has been paid to finishing details such as the seat stitching and the shape of the headlights. It's worth noting that this is the only model present with a frame bridge that bisects the flat floor.

Its water-cooled single-cylinder engine delivers 11.2 hp for its 145-kilogram weight. It features 16" front and 14" rear wheels, with a braking system that includes a 240 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear disc, both equipped with ABS. Its equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, keyless entry, and a space under the seat that conceals a USB port for charging mobile devices. Everything is functional and understated, ensuring a hassle-free ride.

Piaggio Liberty 125

The Italian manufacturer has just updated its high-performance model, and as is customary, it has positioned it as a more "European" option. Not surprisingly, the Liberty is also one of the market's benchmarks. The latest version has only just arrived on the market two months ago and is powered by an air-cooled, three-valve distribution system with electronic fuel injection and a fuel consumption of just 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

The braking system includes ABS. Its completely revised lines are especially noticeable at the front, where we find a new horizontal LED headlight and the characteristic Piaggio honeycomb grille. The instrument panel is now fully digital, with two display modes, an on-board computer, and optional connectivity. Under the seat, there is a space that can accommodate a jet-style helmet. It's worth remembering that the ergonomics of this new Liberty have changed, as the handlebars are now positioned higher.

Voge SR16

Since its arrival in our country just a couple of years ago, Voge has had little trouble gaining a foothold in the market, and it has done so with models as high-quality as this SR 16, which stands out for its 16-inch tires at the front and 14-inch tires at the rear.

It's equipped with a modern liquid-cooled engine delivering 11.6 hp and—according to the brand—has been tested in continuous operating cycles of 200 hours and long-term tests of 60,000 km. Voge prides itself on offering maximum equipment in its models, and this one is no exception.

It features TCS traction control and dual-channel ABS, an emergency brake light, keyless start, full-LED lighting, an under-seat compartment with capacity for a full-face helmet, a glove compartment with a USB port, and a color LCD instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation. It also comes standard with an integrated HD camera, a removable windshield and handguards, and a removable 34-liter trunk.
