The Munich police dogs now drive Mercedes Vito

The Munich police dogs now drive Mercedes Vito

Well, BMW and Audi: If you don't have a choice in your own state, you'll probably have to rely on your neighbors for help. That's exactly what the Bavarian police are doing now.

Twenty-two latest-generation Mercedes Vito Tourers were handed over to the city police at the Mercedes -Benz dealership in Munich as emergency vehicles. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and Hank, a police dog from the Munich Police Service Dog Unit, were present.

The 22 Vitos aren't just any old police vehicles. They're multifunctional patrol cars for the Munich police dog unit. That's precisely why the friendly four-legged friend Hank seems so happy when the symbolic giant key is handed over. Perhaps the person who took this photo just had an ultra-tasty treat in his hand – unfortunately, that wasn't included in the press release.

"The new Mercedes-Benz emergency vehicles represent practical solutions for government operations and can be configured to meet the needs of the police. I am pleased about the partnership and the trust the Bavarian Police have placed in our products. With these vehicles and our comprehensive service support, we are happy to support the police departments of the Free State of Bavaria," explains Thomas Schek, Sales Manager for Mercedes-Benz Vans and Transporter Bavaria.

The Vitos were fitted with a special police conversion by bodybuilder Binz. This police-specific conversion can be customized to suit the department and intended use. Standard features include multibeam LED headlights and a digital interior mirror. Safety and assistance systems support the driver in everyday work.

To ensure optimal accommodation for our four-legged colleagues, a spacious, separate area for dogs is visible. Whether the Vito was also equipped with a treat compartment and tennis ball storage for after-work rewards is unfortunately not mentioned in the press release.

However, the officers should also have sufficient space in the emergency vehicles. The Vito will certainly provide a good working environment for both humans and animals. Next time, Mercedes, I'd like to offer more insight so we can see how the four-legged friends go about their duties.
