More bad news for MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin ! After the Spaniard was injured on the first day of testing and missed the entire day, he has now sustained another injury in training. Another operation is necessary and the season opener next weekend will take place without the defending champion.
Training accident: Operation instead of MotoGP start for Jorge MartinAfter the test injury, the Aprilia newcomer had aimed for a comeback at the Thailand GP and had trained for it. During training, however, there was another accident that resulted in fractures in his left hand. This was reported by several - normally well-informed - Spanish media outlets. Aprilia has not yet commented on the incident.
During the test in Sepang, the Spaniard had already suffered fractures in his right hand and left foot. The hand was subsequently operated on, and the foot is being treated conservatively. Now another operation is required on his left hand. This is to be carried out shortly and means he will definitely miss the race in Buriram. What will happen after that is currently unclear. It is the first time since 1984 that the defending champion will not be starting at the season opener. Back then, Freddie Spencer was also unable to take part in the South African GP due to injury.
Martin replacement: Lorenzo Savadori likely optionFor Aprilia and Martin, the horror start to their new partnership continues. Whether the world champion will be replaced at the first race or only 21 riders will start is not yet clear due to the lack of a statement from Aprilia. However, it can be considered a likely option that test rider Lorenzo Savadori will step in for the Madrilenian. The Italian also took over the duties of the 'Martinator' after the test accident. As a second regular rider, Noale is counting on another newcomer in 2025 in Marco Bezzecchi . He made a positive impression during the test drives.
