MotoGP - Alex Marquez furious: People want to see a MotoGP war between me and Marc!

The battle for the 2025 MotoGP crown is surprisingly turning into a duel between two brothers. Marc Marquez was expected to be at the front, but Alex Marquez is having by far his best season and has emerged as the only challenger. However, some people feel his efforts in the title fight aren't going far enough. The Gresini rider is now ready to strike back.

He wouldn't dare to really attack his brother, that was the accusation. On the Thursday before the Grand Prix in Assen , the World Championship runner-up finally let off steam. "From the outside, people want to conjure up some kind of war or fight between me and Marc. That's what people want to see, a competition. But we've always had that; we're brothers. We've had it our entire lives. You want to beat your brother and be ahead of him; that will never change," he clarified.

He finished many races second behind Marc. But the reason for this isn't excessive reticence in the family duel. "At the moment, he's faster. They say I won't attack him, but I'm not attacking because I can't catch up. He's got a tenth or two more in his arsenal, and you can't get close enough to overtake. That would be over the limit. So I'm trying to drive smart races. Things aren't going badly at the moment. I'm the only one still close to him. Pecco [Bagnaia] is already 110 points behind Marc," the 29-year-old defends himself. By comparison, Alex Marquez is only 40 points behind in the Riders' World Championship .

In some situations, he has certainly proven that he's ready to fight: "If I have an opportunity, like in the sprint at Silverstone, then I'll attack him. But if I don't have that speed, then it's impossible to fight. He's faster, and I can't pull off an overtaking maneuver." In Great Britain, he achieved his only sprint victory this year. And he wants to beat his brother again in Assen: "If I can reduce the gap to Marc in the championship, then I'll certainly try, but it wasn't possible at Mugello. Marc was faster."

His brother himself expects resistance. "I know my brother; if he finds the right tools, he can achieve anything," says Marc. And the Ducati rider has high praise for his title rival from his own team: "In these first nine races, he's been one of the toughest opponents I've faced so far. He's very fast, very consistent, and has great strengths."

Marc also explicitly points out the different conditions of the two: "What Alex is doing is fantastic. Theoretically and officially, he's riding last year's bike. A 2024 bike in a satellite team. It's a very good team, but they don't have the same opportunities as the factory team." So perhaps some critics should be happy that Alex is still keeping the title fight open on a customer bike. Apart from him, no one else can do it at the moment.
