MotoGP - 2nd MopedGP at the Red Bull Ring - and Motorsport-Magazin.com is there live!

For the second time, hundreds of 50cc mopeds roared around the Red Bull Ring on Thursday ahead of the MotoGP weekend. Markus Zörweg was there for Motorsport-Magazin.com.

Before the high-horsepower MotoGP monsters return to the Red Bull Ring from Friday to Sunday, the track was lapped at a slightly slower pace on Thursday. Mopeds with up to 50cc displacement were eligible to compete in the 2nd MopedGP in Spielberg. While the performance may be a bit lower than MotoGP, the MopedGP was impressive in terms of the starting field: over 300 participants were registered.

Hot MopedGP in Spielberg

Motorsport-Magazin.com also jumped into the fray with a 67-year-old Puch VS 50. While the old lady failed to perform well before the checkered flag—an initial analysis identified the intense heat as the root cause—the joy of being able to race such great vehicles on this beautiful racetrack clearly outweighed the disappointment.

This is also the stated goal of the organizers: "Everyone is cordially invited to experience the racetrack from a different perspective. Of course, the focus is not on speed or performance, but rather on celebrating the tradition of moped riding, which has been rooted in Austria for many decades, and thus getting together in the mood for a typically red-white-red racing weekend."

MotoGP stars lead the moped field

The MopedGP achieved this impressively. Led by MotoGP stars like Jorge Martin, Pedro Acosta, and Brad Binder, and reinforced by other two-wheel stars like speedway legend Franky Zorn and freestyle motocrosser Johannes Wibmer, the 50cc bikes roared around the 4.35-kilometer track.

After the motorbikes left the GP stage, the traditional MotoGP fan walk through the pit lane began. During the Public Pit Lane Walk, visitors enjoyed a glimpse into the teams' garages and secured their first autographs and selfies with MotoGP stars. Many more opportunities to meet the World Championship riders are offered by the "Meet the Riders" on Friday and Saturday at the MotoGP Bike City, as well as the "Hero Walk on the Styrian Green Carpet" on Saturday and Sunday.

Best entertainment at the Red Bull Ring

Over the next few days, visitors will experience first-class entertainment at the Red Bull Masters of Dirt FMX shows and Red Bull Freestyle Stunt Shows. On Friday evening, "Knallblech," "TWO KINX," and "Velvet Wasted" will create a festival atmosphere in the MotoGP Bike City, and on Saturday evening, three cover bands will push the atmosphere to the limit. The first Red Bull Legends Parade will provide nostalgic motorsport feelings on Saturday evening and Sunday shortly before the start of the GP. Air shows by the Flying Bulls and the Red Bull Skydive Team will dazzle the audience just before the weekend's showdown.

Motorsport fans who decide to attend last minute can purchase tickets online until Friday noon or pick up tickets on-site at the box office daily from 8:00 a.m. All information about the "BWIN Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich 2025" – including travel information and the program – is available at www.redbullring.com and in the Red Bull Ring app.
