Mercedes VLE from 2026: What is known about the EQV successor

The abbreviation VLE stands for a van model at E-Class level – analogous to the familiar nomenclature in the Group's passenger car portfolio. Target groups include families, taxi companies, and shuttle service providers.
The new VLE is based on the VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture) platform , which was developed exclusively for battery-electric vehicles and features an 800-volt system . The goal is to significantly reduce charging times and raise range and comfort to a new level. During an internal test drive, a pre-production vehicle covered the distance from Stuttgart to Rome (1,090 km) with two 15-minute charging stops. During the journey, the interior temperature was kept constant at 22°C, while outside temperatures ranged between 11 and 33°C. This results in a realistic range of around 480 kilometers .
Various versions are planned, including a classic MPV with up to eight seats, an electric camper , and VIP shuttle vehicles. The platform's all-wheel steering enables tight turning circles, facilitating use even in urban environments. Plans include permanent internet access, wireless software updates (over-the-air), and driver assistance systems up to and including SAE Level 3.
The interior is designed to be flexible depending on the variant. Mercedes is announcing high-quality materials, modern lighting concepts, and—in keeping with the "Vision V" concept car—optional extras such as a 65-inch cinema screen. Vehicle control will be handled via the new MB.OS infotainment system, which also integrates third-party apps.
The VLE will be launched worldwide, including in Europe, North America, and China. It will replace the current EQV and V-Class models in the medium term and will be positioned below the VLS, which serves as the electric counterpart to the S-Class.
Visually, the VLE is based on the previously presented "Vision V" design study, but adopts its design language in a toned-down, near-production version. Striking features include clean lines, a distinctly aerodynamic front design, and flush-mounted lighting modules. The silhouette remains typical of a MPV, but overall appears more stretched and modern than the previous V-Class.
In contrast to the luxurious concept car, the production VLE dispenses with eye-catching chrome details or the continuous light strip in the rear. Instead, the focus is on a functional design focused on everyday usability, space economy, and efficiency. Nevertheless, the similarity to the Vision V remains evident – especially in the front view and the design of the vehicle's flanks.
With the introduction of the VLE, Mercedes-Benz is pursuing the goal of further developing the technology of electric MPVs while simultaneously tapping into new customer groups. The platform strategy envisages continuing to offer the Van.CA platform for combustion engines in parallel with the VAN.EA. Both systems share approximately 70 percent of the components and can be manufactured on a common production line. This allows the manufacturer to respond flexibly to different market requirements. The goal is to ensure a flexible offering for private and commercial customers even where electric mobility is not yet widely available.
When will the VLE hit the market? Market launch is planned for 2026. The first models could be available for order as early as this year.
How many people fit in the VLE? The interior can accommodate up to eight people, depending on the configuration and seating.
What is the real-world range? In practical tests, a distance of over 1,000 kilometers was covered with two short charging stops. This results in a range of around 480 kilometers under real-world conditions.
What charging times can be expected? The 800-volt technology allows charging capacities of up to 320 kW. Two 15-minute stops are sufficient for a long-distance trip of over 1,000 kilometers.
Which target groups does the VLE address? Mercedes-Benz names families, leisure users, taxi companies, and shuttle services as its key target groups.
What distinguishes the VLE from the VLS? The VLE is positioned in the upper mid-size segment, while the VLS, as a "grand sedan," aims to establish a new level of luxury – comparable to the S-Class.
