Alpine is now also following the SUV trend. After the sporty Renault subsidiary already went electric with the A290, the French manufacturer is now also launching a sporty urban SUV, the A390.
So much for flat and with only two doors: Alpine is moving further away from its roots and has built its first SUV. After the French manufacturer already switched to electric drive last year with the A290, derived from the Renault R5, this is the second radical innovation that fans of the low-slung sports cars from Dieppe, France, have to come to terms with.
Even though the A390 has a decidedly low and sleek design, it is by far the largest Alpine since the brand's inception. However, the 4.62-meter-long five-door model is also the most practical, offering ample space for two adults even in the rear and boasting a 532-liter trunk.

Competing in the same segment as the VW ID.5 GTX or the Toyota bZ4X, the A390 flexes its muscles. As one of the few in its class, it always features three electric motors, two of which are mounted on the rear axle and, with variable power distribution, aim to enhance cornering fun.
The three motors deliver 295 kW/400 hp in the base model and 345 kW/470 hp in the A390 GTS. They are powered by an 89 kWh battery. Afterwards, charging is possible at 11 kW AC or, for an additional charge, 22 kW DC, and up to 190 kW DC, Renault added.
The battery in both models operates at 400 volts. Its net capacity of 89 kWh enables a standard range of 551 and 520 kilometers, respectively. The standard version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, while the top-of-the-line, three-motor model takes 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km/h, which is high for an electric car.
Base version available from November, GT version coming in 2026The base version of the Alpine A390 will be available to order from November, with prices starting at €67,500. The GT variant will follow later; it is expected to arrive in early 2026, with prices starting at €78,000.
Standard features include matrix LED headlights, at least 20-inch alloy wheels, and sport seats with Alcantara upholstery. A heat pump is also standard.
The A390 is the second electric car from Renault's sporty subsidiary and is clearly positioned above the A290 city car. From next year, an electric coupé will also replace the A110 sports car, which has now reached the end of its life cycle.
