Cadillac announces three simulator drivers: Indy 500 winner included!

(Motorsport-Total.com) - Cadillac has introduced its driver team for simulator work in Formula 1. In addition to Pietro Fittipaldi and sports car driver Charlie Eastwood, Indy 500 winner Simon Pagenaud will also be joining the team.

The Frenchman was no longer racing after his serious IndyCar accident at Mid-Ohio in 2023, but remains involved in motorsport as a development worker.

The 41-year-old has been working in the GM simulator in Charlotte for several months now, supporting Cadillac's new Formula 1 project in preparing for its entry in 2026.

"Optimization and technology have always fascinated me," says Pagenaud. "I enjoy working with engineers, making the simulator environment as realistic as possible, and contributing my experience. Since my accident, I've been missing precisely that feeling of being useful."

Team principal Graeme Lowdon emphasizes the importance of the project: "Our work in Charlotte is crucial to building the team. We can review basic setups and aerodynamic concepts, validate systems, and practice processes between the US, Great Britain, and the racetrack. Simon has brought tremendous experience and energy to this."

In addition to Pagenaud, Cadillac has also signed Pietro Fittipaldi. The Brazilian contested two Grands Prix for Haas at the end of 2020 and most recently served as a reserve driver. "It's a privilege to work with such an iconic brand," explains the 29-year-old.

The trio is completed by Northern Irishman Charlie Eastwood. The 30-year-old is a factory driver for Corvette in the GT3 scene and brings additional experience from endurance racing to the development work.

Cadillac will compete in Formula 1 for the first time in 2026. The driver lineup for the debut season has already been finalized: Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez will drive the cars. Support behind the wheel will come from IndyCar star Colton Herta , who is involved in the program as a development driver.
