Finally, things are moving forward with the electric subcompact: BYD is launching a well-equipped model, the Dolphin Surf. Now all that's needed is a permanent reduction in prices.

Electric cars in the small car segment are a bit like a bottle of ketchup: First, nothing, then suddenly a whole lot. It took a long time for small electric cars at reasonable prices and acceptable ranges to become available, but the range is now growing steadily. Now the Chinese manufacturer BYD is also entering the so-called A-segment, the smallest car class, with the Dolphin Surf. The Chinese brand, whose acronym stands for "Build your Dreams," is one of the world's largest car manufacturers with its electric models and plug-in hybrids. Like other Chinese manufacturers, BYD has so far been only a niche player in the German market.
