The vehicle color that poses the least risk of accidents has been revealed

A 17-year study conducted by the Monash University Accident Research Centre, examining nearly one million crashes, assessed the link between vehicle colors and the likelihood of a crash. The results revealed the safest and riskiest vehicle colors.

WHITE IS THE SAFEEST VEHICLE COLOR

According to the study, white was the safest vehicle color. The data showed that white vehicles were less likely to be involved in a crash than other colors at any time of day. White cars were found to have a 12 percent lower risk of crashing than black cars.

White was followed by cream, yellow, and beige vehicles. These colors are more easily noticed by other drivers in traffic thanks to their increased visibility.

COLORS WITH THE HIGHEST ACCIDENT RISK

According to research from Monash University, black is the most likely vehicle color to be involved in a crash. Due to its lower visibility, black cars are 12 percent more likely to crash than white cars.

Other risky colors were gray (11%), silver (10%), blue (7%), and red (7%). Researchers noted that dark-colored vehicles are harder to spot, especially at night and in low visibility conditions.

Visibility affects the probability of an accident

According to experts, the primary reason bright, light-colored vehicles are less likely to be involved in accidents is increased visibility. Colors like white and yellow attract attention in traffic, making them more likely to be noticed by other drivers. This shortens stopping distances and helps prevent accidents.

Black, gray and dark-toned vehicles are harder to spot in the dark of night, and the risk of accidents increases because they create less contrast with the road.

COLOR ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH

While research suggests that vehicle color plays a role in accident risk, experts emphasize that it's not the sole determining factor. Driver attention, road conditions, weather, vehicle maintenance, and other factors play a much larger role in accident risk.

“Driving a white vehicle may make you more visible, but safe driving habits are the most important factor in preventing accidents,” experts said.
